About Me.

My name is Varinia Street. I am an artist. I have artwork themed as Covid Chaos. I am a student at Griffith University, studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in drama.
I am also studying improvisation comedy at Big Fork Comedy School. I have performed my standup, Corona Queen V, at Big Fork Theatre and the Royal Nundah Hotel. I am doing my third Fundamentals of Improvisation course called “Characters”. It has all finally clicked. The first three Fundamentals classes introduce you to the basics of improvisation. They are great fun and help with personal growth.
I also found a great musical outlet through Communify, a community care organisation. I am the main vocalist in a community band who practice at 10 Love St Spring Hill every Friday from between 10am and 12pm. If you are struggling with a mental illness we would love you to join us, especially if you are skilled musically.
As a young ballerina, I was kicked out of class for making other girls laugh. We had to mime reaching over an imaginary fence to pick the apples tempting us from a tree, acting as little witches. Naturally, I defied my teacher’s instructions. She did not appreciate my comedic personality. As a spectator of the Sit Down Comedy shows at The Newmarket Hotel, I aspired to participate.
During the pandemic I wrote my own standup script. My debut was on the 29th June 2022 at the Royal Nundah Hotel.
My artwork has been featured in the Keeping It Real exhibition at the Tony Gould Gallery at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
I paint to destress. I have created a body of work, Covid Chaos. Under the microscope, the Covid virus appears to be a crown, so my work features many different versions of Covid spikes.
I was given the gift of poetry when my father passed. I have performed poetry at the Bohemian Cafe in West End, Brisbane. I write a poem weekly, documenting the meanderings of the Communify Compass Walking Crew. I share it over coffee at the end.
I also write encouraging poetry for anyone struggling with life.
I have graduated from The School of Prophets twice. I write comforting, strengthening, and encouraging prophetic poetry.
I have also been a vocalist in Communify’s Love Street Blues Band for three years.
I am available for art and poetry commission work.
